Lipton Invitational started off right

Despite the hours of delay due to rain, the Georgia Southern University softball team

began its weekend with two victories.

To start of the Lipton Invitational, GSU defeated both Coastal Carolina University

and future conference opponent, Troy University. The Eagles started out strong

scoring three runs up while limiting CCU to zero runs. Senior pitcher Sarah Purvis

contributed to this dominance by pitching her second shutout of the season.

As the day went on, the Eagles began to make more errors and allowed Troy to take

the lead early on in the second game. Senior Kourtny Thomas didn’t let Troy’s early

lead stop the Eagles from getting another victory. In the fifth inning, she hit her

career first grand slam, ultimately, winning the game 4-3.

The Eagles will continue to play on Saturday against the University of Indiana at

4:30 p.m. and will face off with CCU one more time at 6:45 p.m.
