Softball splits the day

The Florida International Tournament started off on a good note for the Georgia Southern University’s softball team with a victory, but then took an ugly turn with a blowout loss.

Opening the tournament, the Eagles had to face off against The University of Wisconsin. GSU opened the game with a run with help from freshman outside fielder Taylor Brooks who singled with a bunt, stole second base and eventually was ran into home base.

This Eagle team remained strong throughout the entire game, earning three more runs in the fourth inning. And, they managed to keep the score that way the entire game, winning 4-0.

A handful of hours later, GSU took a turn for the worse in their game against Florida International University. Instead of the Eagles coming out strong from early on, the Panthers came out swinging posting three runs in the first inning.

Just like the Eagles had done in their first game, the Panthers did not stop there and continued to score. FIU scored a total eight runs, while GSU could not come up with one.

The Eagles will continue their play in the FIU Tournament against Florida Gulf Coast University tomorrow at 10 a.m.
