It was a tough night for the Georgia Southern University women’s basketball team (5-12, SoCon 3-3) as it were upset by No. 7 Elon University 68-49.

In the sixth conference game of the season, the Lady Eagles were coming off a strong win against University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Elon came out swinging in the first half putting up 33 points and holding the Lady Eagles to only 17.

The second half featured another slow start by GSU, scoring only two points in the first seven minutes. Following the drought, the Eagles managed to put up 15 points of their own but allowed 21. After trading points for the remainder of the game the Phoenix held on to their momentum and took home the win.

Junior guard Anna Claire Knight was one of the leaders on offense for the Lady Eagles, ending the game with 17 points and 4 boards.

“We didn’t execute offensively, we turned the ball over a lot, just too many mistakes. We are going to go back and watch film and correct our mistakes,” Knight said.
