The Georgia Southern University Athletic Director Tom Kleinlein has given

permission to the Army Cadets football program to contact head football coach Jeff

Monken regarding their vacant head coaching position.

Monken made the list of Army’s top candidates for the job largely due to his 38-16

record and the recent 26-20 defeat over FBS powerhouse University of Florida.

Monken has experience coaching at military academies. Before coaching at GSU,

Monken served as an assistant coach under Paul Johnson at the Naval Academy for

six years.

Kleinlein has had several discussions with coach Monken regarding his future with

the program.

“Monken is the focal point of the program, and I know he loves Georgia Southern,”

Kleinlein said in a news release. “Jeff and I have had conversations and I know he’ll

inform me as the process goes along.”
