Volleyball takes victory from Western Carolina

The Georgia Southern University volleyball team (24-5, 12-3 SoCon) defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts (17-12, 7-8 SoCon) for a second time tonight in the Hanner Fieldhouse.

The Eagles came out ready to play, winning the first set 25-20. In the second set, the Catamounts came back 18-25 and tied the score 1-1. The Catamounts then put up a nice fight, but the Eagles took the next two sets 25-23 and 25-19.

Junior outside hitter Jamie DeRatt led the Eagles with 20 kills and added 13 digs and three blocks, which helped GSU achieve a 3-1 victory. Sophomore right side Katie Bange followed with 15 kills, while sophomore libero Alexandra Beecher finished with a match-high of 26 digs.

For the Catamounts, junior middle Addy George led with 15 kills along with four blocks, while senior libero Morgan Cochran recorded 23 digs.

The Eagles will face the Appalachian State University Mountaineers tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse as part of a tripleheader with men’s and women’s basketball.
