The Georgia Southern University volleyball team defeated the Samford University Bulldogs this evening to capture the Southern Conference tournament title.

This is GSU’s fourth title and grants the Eagles an automatic NCAA tournament bid. The NCAA selection show will broadcast on ESPNU Dec. 1 at 9:30 p.m.

Junior outside hitter Jamie DeRatt recorded 22 kills, 14 digs and two blocks to help the Eagles cruise to a 3-1 victory. DeRatt was named the SoCon tournament Most Outstanding Player.

Junior Kym Coley and Sophomore Katie Bange were also recognized and named to the All-Tournament team. Coley recorded six kills and three blocks and Bange had 13 kills.

The Eagles can leave the SoCon on a high note having tied the school record of most wins in a season set by the 1993 team with an impressive 28 wins.
