The Grove at Statesboro apartments is making efforts to expand safety measures after the armed robbery that occurred Monday night.

“We are working with the police department to increase security in the area to make residents feel more secure,” Juan Rosario, general manager of The Grove Apartments, said.

Officers of the Statesboro Police Department (SPD) responded to The Grove at 8:09 p.m. in reference to the armed robbery of a resident, according to the police report.

Five unknown black males robbed Georgia Southern University student Thomas Schaneman, 21. A wallet with money and cards and a PlayStation 4 were among the stolen possessions.

The Dean of Students office sent out a Campus Alert at 9:36 p.m. advising students to exercise caution and report any information to SPD or the Office of Public Safety.

The SPD is still investigating the incident.
