Georgia Southern University Police arrested a man yesterday in reference to a report of sexual assault that occurred late Monday night.

Evan Beamon, 19, was charged with rape.

“It was an acquaintance-type assault. It wasn’t a stranger related crime,” Chief Michael Russell, director of public safety, said. “If it were we would have sent out an alert.”

Russell was unable to comment further on the incident.

“[The case] has been referred to the court system,” Russell said. “It will go through the grand jury.”
