The Georgia Southern University women’s soccer team came up short tonight against Mercer University losing 3-2.

The Eagles came out firing on offense but could not hold on to the lead late.

A striking difference was seen from the Eagles on offense. To open the game, freshman forward Jennifer Wittick knocked in the first goal, followed up by sophmore Abria Allen 12 minutes later.

The Eagles were fighting an uphill battle on defense from the start, goalkeeper Heather Kirkover was sidelined with an injury sustained in practice this week. This left senior midfielder Alanna Rudd to step up and take her place in goal.

After holding off Mercer for 33 minutes, three unanswered goals managed to slip past Rudd.

Head coach Brian Dunleavy said in a news release, “Our message before the game was creating chances against adversity, and I felt we did an amazing job of that tonight.”
