Georgia Southern University’s volleyball team lost its first home game of the season 3-0 (18-25, 14-25, 13-25) against the University of Georgia tonight.

Before the game GSU hosted a tailgate where they gave out raffle tickets for a chance to win tickets to the GSU vs. the University of Florida football game.  They also had pizza and games including cornhole and gave away four tickets during the match.

Junior Kym Coley tallied 10 kills and Katalin Minnerly led GSU in assists with 24, while UGA’s Brittany Northcutt had 11 kills.

“As a whole we didn’t play well,” head coach Dustin Wood said. “We didn’t capitalize off the opportunities that they gave us, Georgia did all night.  We didn’t play the game we play, I think we were pressing too hard because it was Georgia.”

The Eagles had 11 kills in the first set, 10 in the second with a .119 hitting percentage and two team blocks.

“I think a positive we can take away from this is that we know how they play so next year we’re ready to come at them again,” Minnerly said. “I think this next tournament will show that we can bounce back quickly.”

The Eagles will host the Springhill Suites Invitational this weekend where they will play HighPoint University, North Dakota State University and Oral Roberts University at Hanner Fieldhouse.
