Calvin Wishart knocked down six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 23 points as Georgia Southern beat Reinhardt 109-55 in the Eagles home opener Friday night.
Reinhardt led by as much as four early on in the game but then the Eagles took over the game. Leading by a single point with 7:28 to go, the Eagles proceeded to go on a 18-0 run to have a 46-27 lead at halftime.
In the second half the Eagles carried their momentum from the first half with a 16-4 run that was fueled by four 3s from Wishart, including 3 straight.
Quan Jackson had 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals and David Viti had 23 points off the bench. Wishart and Viti both made six 3-pointers each while the Eagles as a team shot 19-36 from beyond the arc.
Reinhardt had a pair of double digit scorers from forwards Dwayne Wilson and Dorea Wilson who both scored 10 points each in a night where there wasn’t much scoring from the entire team.
Georgia Southern brought back an old tradition in the game, as they encouraged fans to throw toilet paper on to the court after the first basket. Jackson scored on the Eagle’s first possession and the fans flooded the court with toilet paper. This ended up leading to a technical free throw for Reinhardt University.
The Eagles will be back in action tonight as they play the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Both teams will be looking to move to 2-1 on the season.
