The Georgia Southern University softball team used the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the University of North Carolina at Greensboro 5-2 at Eagle Field today.

The win gave GSU sole possession of third place in the Southern Conference with an 11-7 conference record and dropped UNCG a full game behind the Eagles with a record of 10-8.

Senior third baseman Andrea Tarashuk sent an RBI double through the gap at second base in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the ball managed to roll all the way to the fence.

Her hit broke a 2-2 tie and put GSU up 4-2.  Junior right fielder Kaitlyn Johnson sent a hot shot to third base that deflected off the glove of UNCG freshman third baseman Danielle Vega for the Eagles’ fifth run.

GSU will try to put some space between itself and UNCG with a win in game two of the double header starting at 3:00p.m.
