Men’s tennis slides past Samford

The Georgia Southern University men’s tennis team won it’s second conference match in a row, defeating Samford 4-3 at the Hanner Tennis Complex.

After winning an exciting match against conference foe Elon, the Eagles looked to continue its success against Samford.

GSU started the day off with a 3-2 win in the doubles portion of the match, giving it the early one point lead.

Senior Matthijs Verdam and junior Oliver Webb defeated their opponent 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles spot. Senior Alex Doherty and sophomore Kyle Hoffman also won their match 8-6.

With the early one point lead, the Eagles looked to win the match during the singles play.

Freshman Rayane Djouad was first off the court with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 1 singles spot. Junior Albert Codina Sala clinched the match for the Eagles with a 3-6, 7-6, (7-2), 6-3 electrifying win. Junior Marco Osoro also won his singles match 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

The Eagles will end the regular season on Saturday when it faces the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at noon at the Hanner Tennis Complex.
