Eagles fall on Senior Day

The Georgia Southern University men’s tennis team lost its last match of the regular season against Southern Conference opponent University of Tennessee at Chattanooga 1-6.

The Eagles were coming off a huge win against Samford University on Friday and looked to sweep its last home stand of the season as Chattanooga came to town.

Freshman Rayane Djouad and junior Marco Osorio won the only doubles match of the day for the Eagles with an 8-6 score at the No. 2 doubles position. Senior Matthijs Verdam and junior Oliver Webb took their opponent to the wire, but came up short with a 7-9 loss.

Being behind 1-0, GSU needed to win four out of six points in singles play, but failed to do so after only winning one.

The lone win and point of the day came from Djouad as he took his opponent to three sets. Djouad won the match 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 at the No. 1 singles position.

The Eagles end regular season play with 10 wins and eight losses and a 6-4 in conference play. The SoCon tournament is next for GSU and will be held April 18-21 at Elon, N.C.
