The Georgia Southern University softball team lost the deciding game to Western Carolina University today 5–2.

The Eagles were poised to put this game in the win column after junior designated hitter Shelby Morrill hit a two run home run to left center field in the top of the first inning.

Junior pitcher Sarah Purvis kept the WCU offense under wraps until four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning put the Eagles in a 4-2 hole.

WCU sophomore pitcher Jordan Garrett settled in after a rough first inning and shut GSU out for the rest of the game.

WCU freshman first baseman Taylor Sigmon added a solo home run off Purvis in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 5-2.

GSU will have an entire week to reflect on the game that got away since the team won’t be back on the field until the three game series at home next weekend against the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
