Four runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning was enough to keep the Georgia Southern University softball team from dropping game two of a double header with GA State 5-4.

GSU clung to a one run lead with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning until back to back doubles and a home run put the Eagles in a 3-1 hole.

GA State would add another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to gain a 4-1 cushion.  Junior pitcher Sarah Purvis gave up four earned runs and struck out six batters.

Junior short stop Kourtny Thomas sparked the comeback effort by driving home senior outfielder Alexa Lewis.

Freshman outfielder Dominique Grossman scored the go ahead run on a bad throw to give GSU the 5-4 win.

The win allowed GSU to avoid a sweep and build some momentum heading into this weekend’s three game series against Southern Conference rival Samford University.
