Georgia Southern University’s softball team started off its weekend series with two wins in a doubleheader against Samford University.

GSU started out strong in the first game, not allowing Samford to earn one run. In the first two innings, the Eagles tallied up five runs and held that lead until the fifth inning. Sophomore Kaitlyn Johnson scored a solo home run to bring their lead to 6-0 and earning the last run of the game.

After shutting out the Bulldogs, the Eagles were ready to get another victory under their belts. Once again, the Eagles started out strong with a triple from junior infielder/outfielder Shelby Morrill posting two RBI’s and a run for the Eagles.

The Bulldogs showed determination and posted their first run of the weekend in the third inning of the game. The game continued to be scoreless until the fifth inning when GSU earned another run to gain a three run lead.

In response, sophomore pitcher Shelby Scott for Samford got a solo home run making the score 4-2. The Bulldogs could not get any more runs in the top of the seventh and the Eagles took another win. GSU will play Samford once again on Sunday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
