Clutch hitting puts Eagles over Bears

Three runs in the top of the ninth inning allowed the Georgia Southern University baseball team to hold on in the bottom of the ninth inning beating Mercer University 10-7.

Sophomore catcher Chase Griffin, senior first basemen T.D. Davis and junior outfielder Robbie Dodds led the charge in the ninth inning that contributed to all of the runs scored.

Griffin scored the first run off of a RBI double by Davis. Davis and Dodds would score the final two runs of the inning.

Junior Matt McCall (1-0) recorded his first career win coming in as a relief pitcher and successfully getting out of trouble in the seventh inning with the bases loaded.

The Eagles continue their road trip with a weekend series against Samford University beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
