Two home runs helped Georgia Southern University’s softball team kick off the Eagle Classic with a 6-2 win over Alabama State University.

Junior outfielder Shelby Morrill got the scoring started for GSU with a two run home run in the top of the first inning.

The Eagles held on to a 2-0 lead for four innings behind a solid performance by junior pitcher Allie Miles. Miles allowed just two runs on six hits to go along with nine strike outs.

In the top of the fifth inning senior third baseman Andrea Tarashuk and senior first baseman Tabby Douberley gave GSU a couple of insurance runs with an RBI ground out and a double respectively.

Those runs turned out to be crucial as ASU scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tarashuk stepped to the plate in the top of the seventh with the score 4-2 and sent a home run to right center field.

Her home run drove in the last runs of the game and cemented the 6-2 victory for GSU.
