Eagles terrorize Akron at Eagle Field

Another victim fell in the house of the 2012 Southern Conference champions as the Georgia Southern University softball team dismantled the University of Akron Zips 6-4.

Pitching powered GSU to victory on Friday, but today the ladies blew the dust off their bats. Junior short stop Kourtney Thomas went 2-4 at the plate with a home-run and a double.

Thomas drove in four of the team’s six runs including an insurance run at the top of the seventh inning. Her double to left field sealed what turned out to be a tough victory at home for the Eagles.

Junior pitcher Sarah Purvis turned in her second straight solid pitching performance striking out six batters in five innings.

The Eagles will have to dig in and keep their bats hot as St. John’s University will be back for a second helping of the 5-1 beat down GSU put on them yesterday.
