Legendary moments in Hollywood to come to Statesboro

Songs and films that have captured people’s hearts for the past fifty years are coming together for one night in “Hooray for Hollywood.”

“Hooray for Hollywood” will be coming to the Performing Arts Center Monday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and will consist of two acts filled with classic songs that have been featured in famous films and plays such as “Titanic,” “Grease,” “Les Miserables,” Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” and many more.

This show is unlike many other plays because it does not have a storyline. It does not only have actors on stage but films that the musical numbers are from will be playing behind the actors, as well.

“It’s going to be an interesting juxtaposition seeing it playing on the screen and having it acted out in front of you. It’s the best of both worlds,” Stacie McDaniel, administrative coordinator, said.

“Hooray for Hollywood” will be brought to Georgia Southern University by Moonglow productions and Spirit productions, which have a cast of fourteen singers and dancers, a six piece band and over three hundred costume changes.

It’s an exact recreation. They stick to a lot of the dance and musical numbers from the films, McDaniel said.

“I can’t believe they’re doing four numbers from ‘Les Miserables.’ That is my favorite show of all time,” freshman history major, Aubrie Harris said.

“I think it’s really cool because it kind of reminds me of ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ where they have the movie playing in the back while they act it out. Plus, the movies on their set list are legendary,” freshman chemistry major Alexis Gillam said.

Tickets for “Hooray for Hollywood” are $10 for GSU students, $20 for faculty and staff and $26 for general admission.

“Anybody who is a fan of classic Hollywood glitz and glamour is going to have a great time at this show,” McDaniel said.
