With a pink packed Hanner Fieldhouse, Georgia Southern University’s men’s basketball team lost to Western Carolina University 71-62.

In the first half, the Catamounts immediately applied pressure on the Eagles which caused a very aggressive first half for both teams.

With 11:49 left in the first half, the game reached such intensity that the players were in a dog pile on the court fighting for a rebound. The entire half the game was back-to-back even down to the second, when the Eagles had the final possession of the half and senior guard C.J. Reed made a buzzer beater three to tie the game 34-34.

A three pointer and a slam dunk from WCU set the tone for the second half from the very start. GSU gained some momentum on the defensive side with steals and defensive rebounds but, the Eagles could not make a shot. In the second half, the Eagles shot 29.6% from the field and 8.3% from behind the arc.

When the Eagles did make a shot, the Catamounts had a response for every basket. With 3:06 left in the game, the Eagles were only down by five points but, began to force shots and ended up losing by a total of nine points.

The Eagles will be back on the road to play at The Citadel on Thursday, February 14at 7:05 p.m.
