Eagles defeat short-handed Paladins on Senior Night

In their last home game of the season the Georgia Southern University men’s basketball team defeated Furman University 78-61 as the Paladins only dressed seven players total.

Senior forward Cameron Baskerville and senior guard C.J. Reed were honored at halftime in their last home game as Eagles. Reed led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points and eight assists. Baskerville contributed with 8 points.

The Eagles led 30-27 at the half despite shooting only 41.4 percent compared to 43.5 percent for the Paladins. However, GSU was able to make six threes in the first half, which was a focus against the Paladin’s zone defense.

Freshmen guard Cleon Roberts opened the half with back-to-back threes pushing the score to 36-27 which made the Eagles 8-17 from downtown. The Eagles were 15-31 for the game, the most they have hit in a game this season.

The Paladins would battle back after forcing junior forward Eric Ferguson’s fourth foul, they finally took a lead 50-48 with under 12 minutes to go

Two back-to-back dunks by Ferguson capped of a 19-4 run to put GSU up 67-54 with almost three minutes left in the contest and eventually led to the Eagles being victorious

GSU will travel to face UNCG on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
