Home cooking and tough defense helped the Georgia Southern University women’s basketball team notch a 52-50 victory over the Western Carolina University Catamounts at Hanner Fieldhouse.

After coming up two points short in their previous game GSU turned the tables and pulled out a two point win.

Junior guard Mimi DuBose led the team in scoring for the second straight game with 20 points. Dubose shot 4-9 from the field but her true impact was made from the free throw line where she went 11-11.

Sophomore guard Anna Claire Knight followed up her 15 rebound performance with 14 points. GSU’s defense only allowed one player to score in double figures for WCU.

The Eagles trailed 28-27 at halftime after allowing WCU to shoot 43 percent from the floor. Head coach Chris Vozab made the necessary adjustments at halftime as the Eagles scored the first two baskets out of the locker room.

The Eagles kept WCU in its rear view mirror for the rest of the night. GSU will try to keep the ball rolling on Wednesday at home as the team will take on Furman University at 7 p.m.
