Bellissimo receives first-team academic honors

Georgia Southern University volleyball’s senior outside hitter Moriah Bellissimo has been named first-team Capital One Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bellissimo is the 11th Academic All-America selection from GSU and the fourth Eagle to earn first-team honors.

The senior is an nutrition major with a 4.0 grade point average. She helped lead the team to a 25-7 record and the Southern Conference South Division regular-season title.

Bellissimo was also named a second-team All-SoCon, SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for week 12, and SoCon Student Athlete of the Week for the week of November 14.

As a three time member of the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and two-time SoCon All-Academic selection, Bellissimo was the 2012 GSU female Scholar Athlete of the Year. She also currently serves as president of the GSU Student-Athlete Advisory Board.

In her career at GSU Bellissimo played in 121 matches and tallied 783 kills, 1,155 digs, 202 blocks, 185 assists, and 87 aces. She also helped lead the Eagles to a 91-41 record and the 2010 SoCon Tournament title.
