Mountaineers mangle Eagles in North Carolina

A visit to North Carolina was not kind to the Georgia Southern University women’s basketball team as the team dropped its fourth game of the season 79-47 to the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

GSU (1-4) got blitzed early by App. State, which used an 18-4 run to overcome a brief 5-4 lead by the Eagles.  Post play did GSU in as the team allowed 40 points in the paint.

When GSU wasn’t allowing buckets down low, the team was turning the ball over to the tune of 24 for the game.  App. State turned those 24 turnovers into 28 points.  The 28 points off turnovers was a big part of the 32 point loss.

GSU forced App. State into 19 turnovers but could only squeeze four points out of them.  The Eagles couldn’t hold the defense of App. State and only managed to shoot 20 percent for the first half.

The dismal first half overshadowed the fact that the Eagles managed to knock down 43 percent of its shots in the second half.

GSU will look to find an offensive rhythm against Mercer University from the comforts of Hanner Fieldhouse on Friday
