Today, Georgia Southern University’s junior quarterback Jerick McKinnon was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the first of his career.

McKinnon was given the honor in result of his leadership and contributions to the five touchdowns his team scored in last weekend’s Homecoming game against Howard University.

Not only was the award McKinnon’s first, but the GSU quarterback also rushed for a career-high 198 yards with three touchdowns and completed two touchdown throws for 32 yards. While racking up the rushing yards, McKinnon accomplished an 87-yard career-long touchdown run in the first half. He also averaged 12.4 yards per carry on his 16 carries in that game.

Quarterback McKinnon and the Eagles will have their last opportunity of the regular season to put up impressive numbers this weekend against the fourth-ranked University of Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga.
