The Georgia Southern University women’s basketball team dropped to 0-2 on the season with today’s 73-48 loss to Georgia State University.
Georgia Southern started slowly the day after Thanksgiving and Georgia State took full advantage. The Panthers pounced on the Eagles quickly, forcing a turnover 21 seconds into the game.
Behind a ferocious defense Georgia State would jump out to an early 16-6 lead. Georgia Southern went ice cold from the floor in the first half, shooting a dismal 14 percent.
The Eagles kept going to the basket and managed to knock down 10 of its 14 free throws, but the team made four shots in the first half and trailed 34-18 at halftime.
For the second straight game Georgia Southern got pounded in the post as Georgia State outscored the Eagles 36-16 in the paint. Georgia State senior center Cody Paulk put up 18 points and 12 rebounds against Georgia Southern’s frontline.
Georgia Southern must have a short memory because an opportunity to bounce back will happen tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. against the loser of the Kent State University vs. Florida A&M game.
