STATESBORO — Through consulting with Georgia Southern’s mental health professionals, GS’s Athletic Department will raise awareness for Suicide Prevention and honor the life of the late Jordan Wiggins in Saturday’s game against New Mexico State.

At the homecoming game Saturday, there will be a suicide prevention awareness sticker placed on GS player’s helmets, while staff will be wearing the purple and turquoise ribbons. The players will also be using purple mouthguards.

Stickers similar to the ribbons worn by staff will be handed out by GS student-athletes and staff at the gates, as well as the student entrance.

If students or staff are interested in getting to the game early and honoring Wiggins, at the 78-minute mark on the pre-game clock (1:47 p.m.), while the team will be gathering in the end zone, fans are encouraged to join the celebration of life in Section O. No fans will be allowed onto the field, and ticket-holders must have their valid game ticket scanned upon entry.

Lastly, a moment of silence will be observed before the national anthem to recognize all those who have been affected by suicide.
