The Eagles and the Phoenix were battling back and forth all game on Saturday but thanks to a late fourth quarter interception by free safety Darius Eubanks, the Eagles were able to take the win, 26-23.

On a pivotal play with 1:38 left in the game, Eubanks made his second interception of the day on a 3rd and 14 pass from Elon quarterback Thomas Wilson.

Going into the game, the Elon passing attack looked to be the biggest challenge for the Eagle defense. During the game, Wilson and the Phoenix put up 228 passing yards and scored two touchdowns through the air.

Elon did have some very successful drives and All-American receiver Aaron Mellette managed nine grabs from Wilson. He scored Elon’s two touchdowns on the day which is one more than last year. This year he was limited to less receiving yards, with 68.

Right cornerback Lavelle Westbrook covered Mellette for most of the game and was shadowed by Eubanks.

In addition to his two interceptions, Eubanks also recorded 4 tackles and deflected a pass.
