Tom Kleinlein, Georgia Southern Director of Athletics, has named Josh Moffet as interim head coach of the women’s soccer team.

After conducting a national search, as well as working alongside Josh Moffet for several weeks, we have determined that it is in our best interest to name him as our new head women’s soccer coach in the interim role,” Kleinlein said. “After being able to observe what Josh has done since he arrived on campus as well as sit down with him and have him share what his vision is for Georgia Southern women’s soccer, we’re excited for this new chapter and are fully behind Josh and this program.”

In May, Moffet was hired as the assistant coach for the Eagles. His most previous venture before Statesboro was a head coaching gig for Oak City United, a team included in the Women’s Professional Soccer League in North Carolina.

He has previously served as an assistant coach for Shaw University, Emmanuel College and Habersham High School, and had a head coaching stint for the U12 and U19 Classic 2 programs at Rapids FC.

“Firstly, I want to thank TK and Coach Mays for giving me this opportunity,” Moffet said. “It is a huge honor and a privilege to be trusted with the leadership to take the soccer program forward. I am fully invested and committed to the vision of the athletic department, and I am looking forward to building a culture within the program that will enhance the Eagle Brand. I also want to say a huge thank you to the outstanding support staff we have here, who have helped me settle in very quickly. Hail Southern!”

Moffet, a former professional soccer player for Morecambe Football Club in England, is looking to improve the team coming off of a 5-12 season.

The team will open their season on Aug.15 with an exhibition on the road in Columbus to take on Mississippi State, before returning to Statesboro on Aug. 18 with a scrimmage against Jacksonville University at 11 a.m.
