Georgia Southern received a commitment from out-of-state cornerback Anthony Fieldings via Twitter Sunday.

“I’d like to start off by thanking God, my family, my coaches, and teachers who have guided me and invested their time in me to making me who I am today,” he wrote. “I’m giving a special thanks to the whole Georgia Southern coaching staff for just showing straight love since the beginning. With that being said, I’d like to announce that I am 100% committed to Georgia Southern University.”

Fieldings, embarking into his senior year at Apopka High School in Florida, had a great junior campaign, highlighted by a 100-yard interception against Ocoee High School. The team finished 9-4 last season and in hot pursuit of a state championship ring this season.

He attended Junior Day at the University of Miami this summer, and also received offers from Wofford University, University of South Dakota and Army West Point Academy among others.

“I just felt like I belonged there when I came on my visit,” he said. “They want players who are all in and you can really tell that they are all in. I am very big on tradition and Georgia Southern is a very close knit program. The values of the team aligned with those of my own and I appreciated that.”

Fieldings was impressed with more than just the athletic side of GS. He specifically enjoys the campus and dorms, and he appreciates that Statesboro is similar to his hometown of Apopka, Florida. 

“Everything just felt like I could do my next four years there no problem,” he said.

He joins four other out-of-state commits in the 2020 class.
