Today in the Russell Union, Alpha Chi Sigma is selling Dippin’ Dots as a way of engaging Georgia Southern students in the field of chemistry.

With more than 63,400 members nationwide, Alpha Chi Sigma (AXΣ) aims to bring together students and professionals pursuing various chemistry-related careers.

Junior chemistry major Marguerite Seckman and senior chemistry major Srjay Patel pour liquid nitrogen into a metal pot of Dippin’ Dots to create a chemical reaction and demonstrate how the ice cream is made.

“One of the things we do outside of campus is speak at elementary, middle and high schools to promote science and chemistry to children interested in pursuing a major in these fields,” Seckman said.

In addition to speaking at grade schools, AXΣ also volunteers in different charity events throughout the state.

“We’ve worked with organizations such as Relay for Life and the Boys and Girls Club,” Patel said. “We show children at the Boys and Girls Club demos of chemistry experiments to teach them about science.”

‘Shooters’ of Dippin’ Dots are $2 while ‘shots’ are $3.
