It’s officially fall! That means it’s time for movie marathons…but what if you’re tired of Halloween movies? Sure, it’s spooky season, but everybody doesn’t have to like fall for Halloween. Sometimes, it’s about aesthetics.
It’s the breath-taking fall foliage and watching the leaves change color. It’s feeling your heart flutter as the weather changes from summer weather to a brisk autumn day. It’s the start of cuddle weather and there’s love in the air. It’s the smell of cinnamon, pumpkin, and apple cider. A Nightmare before Christmas might not give you that, but these movies will. Here’s a list of fall movies that have nothing to do with Halloween, for my fellow aesthetes.
Julie and Julia
This is a fun-loving movie about not giving up on your goals and believing in yourself, no matter what other people think or say. The storyline alternates from New York to France which are two places with some of the best autumn aesthetics all year round. There’s love, friendship, and food. If that sounds like the perfect combination, wait until you watch it. Caution! Do not watch this movie if you’re hungry.
One Small Hitch
This movie is a drama-filled raunchy romance with lots of plot twists and turns. It takes place in Chicago, which is honestly enough said. The whole movie is just a vibe. It’s one of those that makes you think about running away to the city to find love and never look back. If you’re single, watch this with chocolate nearby. If you’re in a relationship…..make your SO buy you chocolate so you can watch this movie by yourself.
P.S. I Love You
If you love love and you want to cry, this is the movie for you. It’s another New York movie, but those are the best ones. I guess you could call it a dark romance movie, which is perfect for spooky season. You get to watch a love story that will make your heart flutter and you’ll hope to one day find a love like theirs. Not to mention….it’s Hillary Swank. I’d advise against watching this movie without tissues nearby.
Mona Lisa Smile
This is what the kids would call a “chick flick,” but I would recommend it to anyone, especially someone who loves fall aesthetics. This movie is loaded with them. From the vintage feel to the city living, this movie will transport you to a pile of crunchy leaves and just plop you down. It’s set in 1953 in New York, so it’s really just Autumn in New York in movie form. It’s also empowering for women, so this is definitely a good pick for girl’s night in.
Any Harry Potter movie
This one is self-explanatory. If you haven’t seen Harry Potter or at least heard of it, these movies need to be the first on your list. It has the fall aesthetics with a sprinkle of spooky so it’s perfect for people who don’t want to completely give up the Halloween feel without having to drown in it. Now, while this move doesn’t really have anything to do with Halloween, it does have themes that can relate like wizardry, ghosts, and some admittedly creepy music. Grab a wand and your best robe and spend a full 19 hours and 40 minutes watching all of these masterpieces.
These are just some ideas to get you started. There’s nothing wrong with horror movies during the fall season, but there are so many other aspects of fall to enjoy and these movies help you feel them. Go ahead and pop yourself a bag of kettle corn and grab some warm apple cider! This is going to be the movie marathon you didn’t know you needed….
