For those who have never stepped into the Fine Arts gallery to encounter the variety of unique, bold and elegant pieces, the Faculty Art Exhibition which opened Sept. 14 would be a great time to start.
Not only is the exhibit, which will run through Oct. 2, free for students and staff, but it also features a host of artwork including photography, ceramics, mixed media and much more created by Armstrong’s very own art faculty.
Associate professor of art, Pang Chieh-Hsu, who is no newcomer to the art gallery exhibitions at Armstrong said, “there’s room for improvement and in the art department’s perspective, it is a lot of work and responsibility to put the art together.” Chieh-Hsu has had his work displayed in the gallery 12 times so far this year including works such as “The Carp Had Leaped Through the Dragon Gate” and “Three Mr. Britain 2010.”
Chieh-Hsu explained that more work can be done with promoting everyone’s art and getting the word out to the community. In fact, the gallery may soon display the artwork in more known and busier areas where everyone can view the student and faculty artwork in the future.
According to the Art, Music and Theater department, the Armstrong Fine Arts Gallery has 9-10 exhibitions per academic year. Six of these shows include faculty and student exhibitions so there are many more exhibitions to come. A reception will take place on Friday, Oct. 2. The gallery is located in the Fine Arts building and is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
