On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Armstrong soccer team gathered its first Peach Belt Conference win over the University of Montevallo Falcons. The 4-0 win was the Pirates’ second win of the week, the first coming against southeast region opponent Belmont Abbey Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Two second half goals by sophomores Amanda Green and Jenny Allen provided the much-needed momentum-building win Tuesday. The refocused Pirates came out with cannons blazing against Montevallo. Senior forward, Taylor Valley, scored in the 14th minute when she received a throw-in and dribbled into the box, firing a strong shot past the keeper.

Valley said, “We’ve been having a hard time scoring, but today we were lucky to have four people score and that’s what we’ve been waiting for. We played hard the whole game and tried to work on our attack.”

Only five minutes later, Allen scored her second goal of the week when she headed in a free kick from freshman defender Casey Couch who picked up her first college assist. The goal was Allen’s third of the year.

Then, in a matter of only four minutes, Armstrong struck once more for the third goal of the half. This time, Valley played a ball to freshman midfielder Asa Thorsen, who fired a shot from the edge of the box and beat the Falcons’ keeper for her second goal of the year, both coming in PBC conference play.

Freshman Martha Trimbach finished out the scoring for the contest in the 69th minute when fellow freshman Taylor Snell intercepted a failed clearing and fed Trimbach a ball inside the box, where she then beat the keeper and netted the fourth Pirate goal.

“It was such a great feeling to finally score my first college goal,” Trimbach said, “The best part was that it was assisted by Taylor Snell, who’s been assisting my goals for the past six years. I’m very excited to see what the rest of the season holds for this team.”
