The 2015-16 NBA season is just five days old but Golden State Warriors’ point guard and reigning MVP Stephen Curry, has already set an early standard for players.

Curry scored 53 points, taking over the game in the third quarter with 28 as the Warriors defeated the winless New Orleans Pelicans 134-120 in New Orleans’ home opener on Halloween.

Curry outscored the entire Pelicans’ team by two points in the third period, giving him a career-high for scoring in a quarter. Curry shot 17 of 27 from the field, including 8 of 14 from three point range to accompany his 9 assists and 4 steals.

Curry is the first player to score 118 points in the Warriors’ first three games since NBA legend Michael Jordan. While averaging 33 minutes per game, Curry is adding 39 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and only 2 turnovers.

The NBA season is still young, yet many would say it has been an outstanding three games for Curry. Curry currently stands alone at the top and is playing as if to show he deserved the MVP award last season.
