Catch the Drift

By Zach Logan, News Editor

Our news editor gives you a look at what’s trending this week, so you don’t get left ashore.

Sayonara, pumpkin spice:

  • The hashtag #RedCup was trending on Twitter earlier this week when Starbucks rolled out their holiday drinks Sunday, Nov. 1. Now, customers can enjoy their usual seasonal favorites like Peppermint Mocha, Caramel Brulée, Eggnog Latte, Gingerbread Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte and the brand new Holiday Spice Flat White. Drinks will still be served in the signature red cup, through this year they are ombré. Hashtag #RedCupContest on Instagram for a chance to win a Starbuck gift card!

Black Friday’s back!

  • Let’s not forget Thanksgiving! Turkey Day is quickly approaching, which means Black Friday is not far away and many retailers are beginning to release their Black Friday deals and store hours. A number of stores have decided to remain open on Thanksgiving in the past few years. Macy’s announced that they will once more open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Sears will also open at 6, close at 2 a.m. and re-open at 5 a.m. on Black Friday. TJ Maxx, Bed Bath and Beyond and Home Depot are among retailers who say they will wait to open their doors until after Thanksgiving.

Savannah heading back to big screen:

  • Last week, the trailer for the upcoming film, “Dirty Grandpa,” was released. Parts of the movie were filmed on Tybee Island earlier this year. The film stars Robert di Niro who fools his grandson, Zac Efron, into taking him on a road trip to Daytona beach. “Dirty Grandpa” reportedly hits theaters Jan. 22, 2016.
