The Georgia Southern men’s basketball team will take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in the last away game of the season Saturday night.

The Mountaineers are 9-17 overall and 4-9 in the Sun Belt. They have been very successful at home this season, making an 8-3 record in the Holmes Convocation Center.

Senior guard Ronshad Shabazz is averaging about 18 points and three rebounds per game. He has only had three single digit point games this season. Sophomore guard Justin Forrest is close behind with an average of 16 points and three rebounds a game.

App State has played relatively well with top Sun Belt contenders. They only lost by three points or less in both matches to number one Texas State. They are averaging 81 points a game and shoot about 46 percent from the line.

GS is led by senior guard Tookie Brown, who has taken a passive role on the team as of late, but still averaging 17.4 points game. Redshirt-sophomore guard Quan Jackson has been solid on offense this season and been a key factor in the past five games. He has averaged about 16 points per game and five rebounds. Freshman guard Calvin Wishart has been a playmaker on both sides of the ball, working well with senior forward Montae Glenn who is crucial to forcing turnovers and fouls, while firing up the crowd.

GS is on a three game winning streak, defeating South Alabama, Troy, and Coastal Carolina.

With a 17-10 and 9-5 conference record, the team is currently tied for third in the Sun Belt with University of Texas-Arlington behind Texas State and Georgia State.

After this game, GS will come home and play their last three games in Hanner Fieldhouse.
