In order to distance himself from the reputation of his father, he decides to form a new party that speaks for the common man, and then hires a team of PR hotshots to craft his new image. Soon after their arrival, however, the creatives assigned to form his media presence begin to elicit Martín’s suspicion, and paranoia slowly takes hold. Directed by Uruguayan actor/director Daniel Hendler, The Candidate is a thrilling, political comedy that explores the creation of a political persona that is all form and no content.

Film: Operation E/ Operacíon E

6 pm

Ogeechee Theater

The Gracia Roldán Spanish Film Club Festival presents Operation E., which is a controversial film in Colombia due to the real event on which it is based (the kidnapping of Clara Rojas and Ingrid Betancourt). Operation E features Crisanto who is a poor cocaine farmer living with his family in the Guaviare jungle, a region ruled by the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC). A group of guerrilla fighters give them a moribund baby and tell them to take care of him. The doctors heal the baby, but, believing he’s been abandoned and abused, they take it away. Two years later, the guerrilla fighters return to demand for the child back. They give Crisanto three days to find the boy and threaten to kill him and his family if he does not return sucessful… This is a political thriller, which shows what happens away from the cameras and microphones, is a contrasting interpretation of the original film.
