After positive COVID-19 tests within the Coastal Carolina women’s basketball program, the weekend series between the Eagle and Chanticleer women was canceled, leaving Eagles fans with just two basketball games this weekend as the Eagle men hosted the Chanticleer men.

Friday night’s game between Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern was nationally televised on ESPN2, making it the Eagles’ first nationally televised game of the season.

Unfortunately, the Eagle men fell to the Chanticleers, 79-62. The Eagles found themselves down 13 at halftime, and despite a strong second half, the deficit was too big to overcome.

Tyrik Dixon led the way for Coastal Carolina with 21 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists. Garrick Green, Kevin Williamson, and DeVante’ Jones also eclipsed the double-digit mark for the Chanticleers.

For the Eagles, Eric Boone led the way with all of his 17 points coming in the second half. The men shot just over 33% from the field and just over 26% from three-point range, which is never a winning formula.

The Eagles rebounded on Saturday, as they took down the Chanticleers 61-58 in a thriller. Elijah McCadden hit two threes, including one with 0.6 seconds left, to take down Coastal Carolina.

DeVante’ Jones dominated for the Chanticleers as he finished with 27 points. The remainder of the team dropped in just 13 baskets as the offense was disrupted by an inspired Eagle defense.

Kamari Brown and Elijah McCadden were the only Eagles to eclipse double digits. The Eagle defense came on strong as they held the Chanticleers to just 18 points in the first half and forced 23 total turnovers.

The Eagle men will be back in action this weekend as they travel to take on Troy. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday.

After cancellations this weekend, the Eagle women will also be back on the court as they host Troy. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
