Armstrong State University department of athletics has chosen former Student Athletic Advisory Committee president, Christina Chow, as the recipient of the B.J. Ford Scholarship for the following 2014-2015 year.
In order to be qualified for the B.J. Ford Scholarship, persons must be a student- athlete with a minimum 2.5 collective Grade Point Average and also have less than 32 credit hours remaining until completion of degree. The final requirement is that the student- athlete must have participated or is still participating in one of the 6 women’s sports at ASU.
Chow is a four year member of the volleyball team at ASU. In her senior season, Chow had a career year in which she played in 33 matches setting career highs with 21 service aces and 44 digs.
Chow’s senior season was also highlighted by her time as president of the Armstrong Student- Athlete Advisory Committee. As President of the Committee Chow acted as a liaison between student-athletes, athletic administration, and school administration.
Another notable accomplishment is her academic excellence. Christina is a two-time member of the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll.
“I’m extremely honored and thankful to be named the BJ Ford Scholarship recipient,” said Chow, “I’m looking forward to helping in the fundraising events for this scholarship and even more excited about graduating this December.”
Shelby Duff was the inaugural beneficiary of the B.J. Ford Scholarship just a year ago during the 2013- 2014 academic school year. Duff was a notable softball player for the Pirates throughout her time with the team. In May, she graduated with a degree in radiologic sciences.
The B.J. Ford Scholarship, which is funded by the Treasure Walk for Women’s Athletics, has persistently gathered more and more support through the Armstrong and Savannah area. A benefit for the B.J. Ford Scholarship will be on October 11, 2014.
