Each week we will give an update of what’s going on around the conference. Here’s a rundown of all the games this past week in the Sun Belt.

App State vs. Texas State: Nov. 10

In his first game back since the loss to Georgia Southern, The Mountaineers took down the Texas State Bobcats behind QB Zac Thomas’ two touchdown, 247 yard game. They dominated the field, going into halftime with a 21-0 lead. On the first play of the second half, Darrynton Evans ran for a 79 yard touchdown to set the tone for the rest of the game. Appalachian State improves to 7-2 (5-1 Conf.) and second in the East, while Texas State falls to 3-7 (1-5 Conf.) and last in the West.

Final Score: 38-7

Troy vs. Georgia Southern: Nov.10

With both teams performing well during conference play, this was a fight for first place in the East. The Trojans defeated the Eagles in Statesboro to clinch first place in the East. GS took an early 14-3 lead in the first quarter, but went scoreless until the fourth quarter. Troy’s defense held the GS offense to 13 first downs the entire game. Troy improves to 8-2 (6-0 Conf.) and GS falls to third in the East and 7-3 overall.

Final score: 35-21

Coastal Carolina vs. Arkansas State: Nov.10

Behind a strong game from junior WR Kirk Merritt, Ark State took down the Chanticleers in South Carolina to tie ULM for first in the West. Merritt had a season high 180 yards and led the offense, while Tajhea Chambers led the defense to help force four fumbles with 7 total tackles. They will improve to 6-4 (3-3 Conf.), and though CC falls to 5-5 (2-4 Conf.), they will remain fourth place in the East.

Final score: 44-16

Louisiana vs. Georgia State

Both teams looking to bounce back from losses, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns were led by junior Raymond Calais season high 186 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a victory over the Panthers. GSU defense allowed Louisana to score twenty unanswered points throughout the second half, before finally scoring with four minutes of play left.

Louisiana is now 5-5 (3-3 Conf.) and tied with Arkansas State for second in the West. Georgia State drops to 2-8 (1-5 Conf.) and last in the East.

Final score: 36-22

ULM vs. South Alabama

Improving their winning streak to four games, The ULM Jaguars took down South Alabama in Mobile. QB Caleb Evans dominated the ULM offense with 367 yards and two touchdowns, completing 27 of 32 passes. Going into halftime with a 24-10 lead, ULM defense held the Jaguars to zero points the second half. The WarHawks are sitting on top of the West with a 6-4 record (4-2 Conf.) and South Alabama remains tied with Texas State for last in the conference, (2-8, 1-5 Conf.).

Final score: 38-10
