The University Plaza, located on Chandler Road and Georgia Avenue, has been purchased by Stonewalk Companies with intentions of building student housing on the property.

The plan was presented to the Statesboro City Council Oct. 26 and recommended for approval on Tuesday.

Robert Forrest, a GS business grad, is the applicant for the plan.

“The applicant is proposing to construct a new mixed-use development on a combination of parcels (University Plaza) located on Georgia Avenue, near the corner of Chandler Road, to be used for student housing and retail,” the proposal reads.

The design of the student living is for a gym, study rooms and more than 100 living units which would house 464 total students.

In the proposal, Dingus Magee’s bar and restaurant and Zaxby’s will remain separate entities.
