Theatre South is hosting its annual Wham Bam Play Slam event Saturday night.

The event challenges participants to write, direct and act in a play in 24 hours.

Nicholas Newell, assistant professor of theatre, said that Wham Bam Play Slam is held every academic year to introduce the theatre division to the public.

“We produce the Wham Bam Play Slam at the start of every academic year to introduce the theatre division to new students and welcome back students who already participate in theatre,” Newell said.

Newell said that the event is open to everyone, even if you are not in the theatre department.

“Any student who enjoys acting, writing or directing will get the opportunity to create and present a short play in 24 hours,” Newell said.

Anyone interested should arrive at the Center for Art and Theatre, which is behind the Interdisciplinary Academic Building, Friday at 7 p.m.

The plays will be presented to the public free of charge in the CAT Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The Theatre Department is also holding auditions Aug. 23 for their second show of the season, “Amen Corner.”
