Mountaineers come to Statesboro for pivotal softball series

While the Eagles were unable to take the series against the #22 ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, they were able to steal a win. The Eagles look to bring home more wins as they face off against rival Appalachian State at home.

Appalachian State (16-30; 3-15)

The Mountaineers have had a less than successful season, losing almost 2/3 of their season games and currently being on a losing streak of one.

As a team App State bats a .268 average and has totaled 189 runs and 327 hits for the season. Leading the Mountaineers with 18 runs, 40 hits and nine homeruns is Jenny Dodd who bats an average of .367. Following close behind her with a .323 batting average is Keri White who has logged 25 runs and 42 hits for the season.

Pitching-wise we can expect to see Kenzie Longanecker who leads the team with an ERA of 3.39 and has a total of 79 strikeouts for the season. We can also look to see Katie Williford on the mound as she has an ERA of 3.91 and has thrown 25 strikeouts for the season.

Georgia Southern (24-22; 8-13)

The Eagles have had an even season so far, being 24-22 and is also on a losing streak of one after dropping the last game at Louisiana.

GS collectively bats a .268 average and has notched 181 runs and 337 hits for the season. Leading the Eagles batting a .326 is standout junior Hannah Farrell who has added 23 runs and 46 hits to GS’s statistics along with eight homeruns for the season. Following behind Farrell with 19 runs and 40 hits is sophomore Mekhia Freeman who bats an average .310.

While pitching lineups have not been announced we can expect to see Kierra Camp on the mound sometime this weekend as the senior pitcher has an ERA of 3.90 and has thrown 62 strikeouts for the season. We can also look to see freshman Rylee Waldrep as she has an ERA of 4.29 and has thrown 55 strikeouts for the season.

The series will be played at home on Eagle Field starting with a double header on Saturday April 28 with game one starting at 1 p.m. The series will resume Sunday April 29 at 1p.m. Saturday’s games will be streamed on ESPN3 and will have senior festivities following the second game.
