Redshirt junior forward Shawn O’Connell has chosen to transfer from Georgia Southern and has committed to UNC-Wilmington.

O’Connell announced back in mid-March that he was going to use his final year of eligibility elsewhere as a Graduate Transfer.

The 6’8” forward from Milton High School played in 32 of the 33 games this past season for the Eagles. Averaging 3.3 points and 3 assists per game, O’Connell shot a team high 71.4 percent from the field.

His best game of his last season with GS was back against Bluefield State early on in the season. O’Connell had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

By playing in the state of North Carolina, O’Connell will join his brother Alex who plays basketball for Duke.

UNC-Wilmington plays in the Coastal Athletic Association and nearly beat Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament two years ago.
