Students are still awaiting the completion of the new Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center. The construction was expected to be done by last spring but is currently still under works.
The Jack and Ruth Ann Hill convocation has been in progress since February of 2021 when the name was first approved by the University System of Georgia.
The center is named after the late Senator Jack Hill and his wife of 46 years, Ruth Ann Hill, both who graduated from Georgia Southern.
The convocation center will serve for convocations, graduation ceremonies and other events that use the floor, the center occupancy tops out at almost 5,900. For athletic events and basketball games, the center will seat approximately 5,500 spectators.
The center also will include full office suites and locker rooms for Georgia Southern’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. It will also be the largest event venue space between Savannah and Macon.
For those wondering if their graduation will be held in the center this semester, we reached out to the University for comment and Jennifer Wise responded regarding future plans for the center.
“Fall 2024 Statesboro commencement ceremonies will be held in Paulson Stadium. In the future, we look forward to hosting large-scale events in the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center, including New Student Convocation and Commencement Ceremonies for Graduate Programs,” Wise said.
