The Student Government Association (SGA) elections close tonight at midnight, with every college except the College of Education having candidates for the student-run senate.
SGA is a student-run organization that seeks to bridge the gap between students and administrators on key issues such as parking, housing, dining, and much more. Kelsi Simpson, the SGA Leadership Coordinator, says that SGA is a very important part of the campus community.
“I think oftentimes students voices can become unheard because of the amount of students on campus, and having an organization whose sole focus is to advocate for student’s issues and concerns on campus, and making sure their issues and concerns are being heard by administrators is really important,” she said.
SGA does this by listening to students and communicating what they hear to the administrators of the university. The elections, according to Simpson, are a way for the student body to personally help with that communication, by casting votes for students running as representatives for colleges within Georgia Southern. Students can vote for any candidate once in any college, with dozens of options to choose from that are listed on the SGA’s website.
With voting closing at midnight tonight, it is important that students check their emails and/or your MyGeorgiaSouthern portal for the ballot so that they can better be a part of the system that allows for their voices to be heard.
