SAVANNAH – With Spring Break and a St. Patrick’s Day celebration, Tuesday’s Spring Break Bash hosted by the Office of Students Activities reminded students to stay safe while away.
Dozens of tables covered the Student Union lawn on Tuesday, handing out free items and information on enjoying break safely.
Students were given bingo cards and encouraged to visit each table for a chance to pick prizes including beach towels, pool floats and tumbler cups.
“We’re out here promoting, like, safe activities for Spring Break, so lots of activities that you can do that include staying sober. So, like not drinking alcohol or using any unprescribed substances,” said Kelly Long and Anna Rivera, licensed professionals at the Counseling Center.
A popular activity included a drunk driving simulator where students played arcade-style racing games with vision-impairment goggles. Students’ ranks varied from first to eighth place each with different levels of finesse.
“It’s very hard, so I don’t know how people drive drunk,” Amira Johnson said after the simulation.
She added more on her plans to stay safe during her break.
“I know at the time I do plan to leave [an event] that I am sober and not just faking it. That I’m actually seeing clearly and I need to see because I’mm wearing glasses,” Johnson said.
Tycen Tomms spoke on his favorite parts of the event.
“I’ve been enjoying this event thoroughly. It’s been really cool to walk around and get to know some of the different people at these booths and what they’re here for, and what they’re bringing to campus,” Tomms said.
